Grade 9 Math

Virtual Learning to be the new normal? On this episode of More Than Just A School we discuss the controversial Bill 124, Virtual Learning and it’s impact on the public education system. To reach out to FXO Consulting find out more here.

Do you feel as if your child doesn’t get enough care at school?

Your child receives an assignment where they have to write an essay with the chance to win a scholarship for their university of choice! Their teacher works with the students individually to help them personalize their applications and improve their essays. Your child has all of the support needed to write the best essay for the competition. They work tirelessly and finally, they submit their application. Now, we wait. It takes days, weeks, months before you hear a response.

I want in on all things education

Then one day, the teacher ushers the students to sit down quickly and quietly. The results are in.

Everyone is excited as they look at one another, hoping to see if their submission was selected. Low and behold… your child is selected for the $5,000 scholarship! Your child is shocked and overjoyed as the class and the teacher starts to cheer. You are happy. Your child is happy. Her teacher and the class are overjoyed. You wait to see if your child’s name will show up in the school newspaper, on the school’s Twitter feed, or even on the school’s website. And so, you wait. It takes days, weeks, months but this time, there is no response.

The excitement you had once felt is dimmed

You can see that your child is disappointed that the school was silent about the great accomplishment they had achieved. They won a national essay contest, beating out hundreds of students across Canada. Doesn’t that count for something?

Well, this is a true story. And the teacher in this story happens to be Korina, the co-founder of Roots to Routes Academy. She was devastated that her student wasn’t being recognized for her achievement and decided to start her own school where recognition and appreciation of all students are at the forefront.
